Matt Scassero
Matt Scassero is the Director of the University of Maryland Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Test Site, focusing the resources and efforts of the state of Maryland on working with the FAA to integrate UAS into the national airspace, and enabling public access to these valuable assets to empower a flourishing civil and commercial UAS industry. He is also affiliated with the Advanced Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), the Maryland Robotics Center (MRC), and the Maryland Transportation Institute (MTI). His research interest is in any technology or application to be integrated with UAS, or multi-domain efforts with UAS, as well as AI and machine learning utilizing UAS. Prior to joining UMD Matt was a naval flight officer, with over 27 years and 2,500 flight hours in carrier-based combat aircraft (EA-6B Prowler); served as Air Boss in USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) in charge of all air operations; Vice Commander for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division; NATO staff officer for Striking Fleet Atlantic/2ND Fleet. Matt holds an MPA from the University of Baltimore (2017) and a BS in Physics (Oceanography) from the U.S. Naval Academy (1982).
Mr. Scassero is on the Board of Advisors for the College of Public Affairs for the University of Baltimore, the Board of Advisors for the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland, and the Board of Directors for The Patuxent Partnership. He is also a peer/mentor/facilitator and former board member for Warfighter Advance, a PTS non-profit.
