Dr. Ted Woodward has an extensive record of innovation, entrepreneurship, research, management, and leadership in fields including RF and optical communications and networking, data systems, semiconductor electronic and optoelectronic devices, full-custom integrated circuits, and commercial optical communication products. With experience in both the commercial and government environment, he works across the boundary of research and application to connect new research to useful innovations that deliver customer impact.
Prior to joining ARLIS, he managed the Research Engineering team within the Facebook Connectivity organization where his team landed multiple initiatives onto product team roadmaps aimed at globally connecting more people to a faster internet. Prior to Facebook, he served as a Program Manager in the DARPA Strategic Technologies Office (STO) where he created, managed, and transitioned a diverse portfolio of programs in communications, networking, and sensing valued at more than $150M. As a Chief Scientist in the Applied Research division of Telcordia Technologies, subsequently Applied Communication Sciences / Vencore Labs / Perspecta, he was the Principal Investigator for numerous internal and external programs in optoelectronics, communications, networking, and RF systems. He was responsible for conception, development, and introduction of many revenue-generating DWDM transmission and switching products as co-founder and Vice-President of Hardware Engineering at Internet Photonics, Inc., and subsequently Sr. Director of Engineering at Ciena Corporation. Dr. Woodward began his career with 12 years as a member of technical staff in the Research Division of Bell Laboratories where he defined and executed impactful research in optical interconnect and communication systems.
