Valerie Karuzis
Valerie Karuzis is a Senior Faculty Research Specialist at ARLIS. She has been with the University of Maryland at College Park since January 2011, having started as a Faculty Research Specialist at the Center for Advanced Study of Language. She has enjoyed working on a variety of projects at UMD. Some projects have evaluated whether interventions (speech perception training, working memory training, mindfulness training, and transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation) facilitate language learning. Other projects have involved neuroimaging of distorted reading and speech, cognitive interviews of military and contractor personnel, and the development and validation of Tone Aptitude and Cyber Aptitude batteries.
Valarie's areas of expertise are in statistical analyses in R (including mixed models, linear models, logistic models, and item response theory), experiment programming (E-Prime, PsychoPy), and study administration, including administration of tVNS, EEG, pupillometry, and MRI techniques.
