Peter Loats
Peter Loats joined ARLIS in July 2021 as a Visiting Research Engineer. Early work at Loats Associates in image processing and analysis for natural resource modeling and satellite mapping was used in producing micro-computer based autoradiography systems for neuroscience research. Later systems he helped develop combined imaging techniques with robotic microscopy for automated pre-clinical drug development used in the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Loats developed a custom ISA board to integrate eye-tracking data into a data capture system for use by the Maryland Psychiatric Research center. He also developed systems for volume registration and visualization of CT, MRI, and PET modalities used at NIH, JHU Neuroscience, and Maryland Psychiatric Research center.
Mr. Loats spent 9 years as a consultant with RWD Technologies applying user-centered design practices in developing applications to support call centers in diverse industries such as cable television and banking. That experience culminated in developing, delivering, and validating an FDA 21CFR11 validated system for Aventis Pharmaceuticals to support pharmacist’s research and help them provide approved information to medical professionals. At RWD he helped develop the firm’s software development methodologies and training as well as helped to create a technical path for the advancement of software engineers to augment the firm's existing project manager path.
At Next Century Corporation he worked on systems ranging from software-defined radios to hyperspectral cameras. He developed the signal recognition system for the MANPACK JCTD body-worn radio-direction finding system developed for Special Forces as well as handheld aerial dispersion modeling and mapping system for the Army’s CBRN efforts. Immediately prior to ARLIS he worked on developing and deploying systems for the intelligence community. Since 2010 he has worked on big-data object-based production systems, streaming data analytics, cross-domain tipping solutions, and many web-based situational awareness systems such as E-Space.
