Dr. Adele Merritt is the Chief Research Officer of the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), one of 15 designated Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) and the only UARC dedicated to intelligence and national security. She is also a Visiting Research Scientist at the University of Maryland at College Park.

Before joining ARLIS, Dr. Merritt served as the Chief Information Officer at the National Institutes of Health, overseeing a $1.9 billion IT portfolio supporting scientific research, infrastructure, and high-performance computing. She previously served as the Intelligence Community CIO where she led modernization and cybersecurity efforts across the IC’s information technology systems. Dr. Merritt led a public-private partnership focused on addressing cyber threats to U.S. national security systems and critical infrastructure. She also was the Program Director at a non-profit focused on advancing cybersecurity innovation and collaboration through partnerships with industry, academia, and government.
