The researchers at the Maryland Institute for Quantum Applications (MIQA) investigates how technologies such as quantum computing, networking, and sensing can lead to new strategic tools and systems designed to enhance national defense capabilities. Our quantum hardware experts and algorithms scientists can decipher industry approaches, deliver unbiased assessments, and clarify the path forward.

Post-Quantum Cryptography and Cybersecurity of Quantum Computers

As a trusted agent, ARLIS research informs critical network architecture and procurement decisions for implementing post-quantum cryptography. As a test and evaluation partner, ARLIS can ensure that synchronization and unity of effort across the entire government, academic, and industrial base deliver the security to protect against future quantum threats for existing networks as well as securing future quantum computers.

Atomic Clock, Sensor, and Quantum Networking Laboratory

ARLIS excels at hands-on evaluation of commercial quantum hardware from compact optical atomic clocks for PNT and ISR applications to quantum optics equipment for communications and enhanced time transfer on the ground and in space. We don’t just test products in the lab. We push quantum technologies to their limits in realistic field tests and mission-inspired testbeds, and simulate the impact of advances on mission scenarios. MIQA research identifies which prototypes are ready for the real world, and which need to be reengineered.
